A Close Look At The Beautiful Life Of Michelle Pfeiffer
Commercials And More TV Flops
Michelle Pfeiffer wasn’t deterred by her early failures, though she did take a break from acting to move into commercials and was, for a while, the face of Lux Soap. The money she earned from this work paid for her acting lessons at the local Beverley Hills Playhouse.
Despite this, her next three films were not big hits. The film Callie and Son was so bad that nobody remembers it at all. The Children Nobody Wanted was her first starring role, but the film itself bombed and was swiftly forgotten, and a remake of Splendor in the Grass was a critical failure. At this point, you wouldn’t blame Michelle for thinking maybe this gig isn’t for her after all.
The Big Time, At Last
But then, Michelle Pfeiffer’s breakthrough into the big time finally came. She auditioned for the role of Stephanie Zinone in the sequel to the hit musical Grease.
Grease 2 was not a hit on the scale of the original, but it did respectably at the box office, particularly when you consider that it had to compete with E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial, Rocky III, Poltergeist and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan on the weekend of its release. The film was another critical disaster, but Pfeiffer later said, “That film was a good experience for me… it did teach me not to have expectations.”
