A Close Look At The Beautiful Life Of Michelle Pfeiffer

The Witches Of Eastwick

Michelle Pfeiffer finally scored a home run in the 1987 movie which adapted John Updike’s novel to the big screen, The Witches of Eastwick. She starred opposite Cher and Susan Sarandon as one of the eponymous witches, and alongside Jack Nicholson, who falls under their spell.

The Witches of Eastwick was a critical and commercial success. It was nominated for two Academy Awards and picked up, among a number of other awards, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and a BAFTA award. Michelle Pfeiffer’s star had finally arrived, and her move into the big leagues was set for years to come.

Married To The Mob

Pfeiffer’s next appearance would be in the 1988 hit Married to the Mob. She played against her usual type to become the widow of a slain gangster. She even wore a brown wig to remove all traces of her ditzy blonde days.

The gamble worked, and she received her very first Golden Globe Award nomination for that performance. She would then go on to be nominated in the category Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for the next five consecutive years. The film was a big success, and still rates at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes today. Pfeiffer’s contribution was critical to that success.
