A Close Look At The Beautiful Life Of Michelle Pfeiffer
More Big Hits
The end of the 1980s was a golden era for Michelle Pfieffer. Her next movie, Tequila Sunrise, with Mel Gibson ad Kurt Russel, was a hit. So was Dangerous Liaisons, which co-starred John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Pfeiffer won a BAFTA award for her part in that.
The Fabulous Baker Boys was a minor commercial success, but her role as Susie Diamond, a lounge singer who had once been a call girl, became the biggest critical hit of her career. She won nearly every award going that year as best actress, apart from the Academy Award which went to Jessica Tandy for Driving Miss Daisy.
Too Many Offers, Not Enough Time
Pfeiffer’s high profile meant that she could begin to pick and choose roles as she entered the 1990s. She missed out on three major roles – the title role in Pretty Woman, which resulted in an Oscar for Julia Roberts, the role of Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs, another Oscar-winning role for Jodie Foster, and Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct, which gave Sharon Stone’s career an incredible boost.
Her roles in The Russia House, Frankie and Johnny, and Love Field, however, brought her plenty more award nominations of her own. The next role was completely different.
