Christopher Plummer played Captain von Trapp in the 1965 film The Sound of Music. While he may have done an excellent job with the film, he wasn’t happy with how he was treated after. In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, he claimed that his role in The Sound of Music was the most difficult role he ever had.
He said that it wasn’t the singing or working with children, but that it was because it was cheesy. He stated that “It was so awful and sentimental and gooey […] You had to work terribly hard to try and infuse some minuscule bit of humor into it.” Since he felt this way about the film and his character, he resented it for defining his career.
