After Seeing Her Innocent Selfie, Woman’s Friends Were Horrified To See Something Else In The Background
After a night on the town, Olivia Nunn thought nothing of it when she sent a selfie to her friends the next morning. Feeling a bit worse for wear, Nunn didn't notice that she wasn't alone in the picture.
That is, she didn't notice until her friends started blowing up her phone, telling Olivia to all but take her sweatshirt off and burn it. What was lurking in the shadows of the picture? Keep reading to find out!
Olivia Nunn Was A Small-Town Girl With Big-Town Dreams
Small town British gal Olivia Nunn always dreamed of making it big, becoming so famous that everyone knew her name. Of course, getting to that level is easier said than done.
Becoming famous takes years and years of dedication. With that in mind, Olivia decided keeping up with the latest and greatest in celebrity gossip would have to do. Of course, then the age of social media influencers came to be, and Olivia's dreams were renewed.
She Was Determined To Make An Online Presence
Growing up in Middlesbrough, England, Olivia never thought she would get the chance for the world to learn her name. She was just a teenager from an English town, after all, so the dream seemed beyond unrealistic and unreachable.
But she was determined to make it big online, no matter what. She began how most people her age do, posting pictures and giving updates about her life on her social media accounts.
The Next Step: Watching Tutorials
Out of her teenage years and going into her twenties, Olivia decided it was time to establish a social media presence. Gaining a humble following across various platforms, Olivia began to educate herself on becoming a social media influencer.
Watching makeup, modeling, and hair tutorials, Olivia was well on her way to having a full-fledged social media presence. Of course, getting to the level of fame she wanted was way easier said than done.
The "Selfie Queen"
Nevertheless, Olivia would post selfie after selfie on her social media platforms, specifically Instagram and Twitter. With perfect lighting, outfits, hair, and makeup, Olivia soon proved that she was very photogenic and a natural at modeling.
Her friends even began calling her the "Selfie Queen," since she seemed to have a never-ending roll of photos on her camera, filtered and ready to post at the drop of a hat. Olivia was definitely in her element.
Fame Was Right Around The Corner
Little did Olivia know, but her dream of becoming famous was about to happen sooner rather than later. And, ironically, her internet fame was going to have nothing to do with the extremely well-manicured and thought-out photos she posted to her social media channels.
Nope, her fame was going to come after a night out with friends and a morning-after selfie with a very unexpected and horrifying intruder. To say Olivia's friends were a little startled upon seeing the picture would be an understatement!
It Started With A Girls' Night Out
It was Friday, and Olivia decided to leave work early so she could get dolled up for a night on the town with friends. That meant hair, makeup, clothes, and everything else had to be picture-perfect -- just in case a photo-op presented itself (it typically did).
With everything in its place, Olivia was ready for a night she wasn't going to soon forget. Ironically, it wasn't the night but the following morning that would prove the most memorable.
Dressed To Impress And Ready To Dance
Olivia was ready to turn heads that night, and her friend Grace Graham even complimented her on the killer outfit the social media influencer picked out for their night out. Now, it was time to have some fun!
Little did the two girls know that while Olivia was turning heads that evening, the next morning was going to bring a lot more attention to the young woman. But first, they were going to dance the night away at the club.
She Headed Out To The Club For A Fun Night Out
Dressed to impress and ready to have some fun with her friends, Olivia hopped into an Uber, all set to dance the night away. And that's exactly what she did. Shamelessly flirting, dancing to an endless DJ set, and drinking more than her fair share of adult beverages, Oliva was having the time of her life.
Too bad that fun nights have to come to an end, though. And with the sunrise came a killer headache for Olivia.
The Next Morning Was Rough
The next morning, Olivia woke up feeling a little worse for wear. With a headache, sore body, and dry mouth, she mildly regretted her escapades the night before, no matter how fun they were!
Not really thinking much of it, Olivia rolled over, grabbed her phone, and snapped a selfie in bed to send to her friends. Her thought: they'd all have a good laugh about her present state, and she would get ready to start the day.
Her Head And Body Had Seen Better Days
Well, that's not exactly what happened. While a hangover isn't fun to begin with, Olivia had no clue that her head and body aches were just the beginning of a not-so-fun morning. The thing is, she didn't realize just how bad the morning was about to get.
It wasn't until after she sent off a selfie to her friends and her phone began to blow up with their concerned responses that she knew anything was off. What was going on exactly?
Obviously, A Picture Was In Order
Wanting to make fun of her debilitated state, Olivia decided a selfie was in order. She wanted to show her friends that she was still wearing last night's makeup, earrings, and the sweatshirt she threw on in favor of taking a shower and scrubbing the excess "club" off.
Well, she was still wearing that hoodie when she snapped the selfie. The reaction she got from her friends was the last thing Olivia ever expected.
Here It Is: The Selfie
When Olivia took the picture, it was under the assumption that she was the only one in the frame. She was at home, hungover, and in bed, after all. There was no one else around her.
So, imagine Olivia's surprise when her friends begin blowing up her phone, commenting on the "other thing" in the selfie she just sent the group chat. Olivia was so confused; what in the world were her friends talking about?
What Was Everyone Going On About?
Feeling on the lower end of 100%, Olivia couldn't wrap her head around what all the fuss was about. What was wrong with the selfie she had just sent to the group chat?
Yeah, her facial expression screamed, "I am never drinking or going out again in my entire life," but that didn't warrant her friends freaking out, right? Well, the freakouts were definitely for a good reason -- Olivia wasn't by herself in the selfie.
Grace Pointed The Figure Out To Olivia
After sending her bed-ridden selfie to her friends, the text messages came in at record speed. Apparently, there was an unwelcomed guest in the selfie, one that Olivia didn't seem to see.
It was actually Grace, Olivia's friend from the previous night, who pointed the figure out to the social media influencer. If they hadn't, Olivia probably never would have noticed the tiny intruder that was no more than inches away from her face.
A Spider Was Inches From Her Face!
The uninvited guest was none other than a ridiculously large black spider. Inches from Olivia's right eye, the spider was nestled snugly in the hood of her sweatshirt, blending in with the color of her hair so it was a bit camouflaged.
Of course, the dark splotch wasn't Olivia's hair, but rather a spider who was not welcome to reside inside her hoodie. Ironically, it would be that dark spot in the picture that would garner Olivia the fame she'd been looking for.
The Post Went Viral
After years of trying to get famous, all it took was Olivia's friend Grace posting her selfie on Twitter. It didn't take long before the creepy picture went viral, with 47.7K likes and 3.7K retweets.
And while Olivia was finally getting the attention she's always wanted, it wasn't exactly for the reason she was hoping. Seriously, people were all over her hangover-meets-spider picture and none of her model-worthy posts.
People Were Horrified And Yet Confused
Virtually overnight, Olivia became an internet sensation because of the spider in her hoodie. People were equal-parts horrified about the situation and confused about how the young woman didn't notice the eight-legged intruder while taking the selfie in the first place.
Needless to say, the entire picture and situation was a living nightmare for a lot of people, while others were using it for nothing more than a good laugh because it wasn't them.
Grace Couldn't Help But Poke Fun At Her Friend
After Grace posted the original photo with the caption, "Nearly 24 hours later, I still cannot get over Olivia sending a hungover selfie in the group chat, and there's a spider just chilling in her hood," the comments started pouring in.
People couldn't believe there was just a spider hanging out inside the hood. More so, that the woman wearing the sweatshirt had absolutely no idea that it was there before sending off the selfie.
The Twitter Comments Started Flooding In
One Twitter comment read, "Literally, I'd cry for the next 10 days," while another person wrote, "It's the fact its got her trapped in there like Ryan Reynolds in Buried, nowhere to run...Can't take the hood down, can't move, can't blink, nothing."
At the end of the day, people were just concerned about Olivia. It was a huge spider, after all. It could potentially be poisonous, and it was right next to her eye!
It Was Time To Learn About The UK's Spiders
While some people were joking about the spider, others were concerned for Olivia. Did she whip that sweatshirt off and aggravate it into biting her? Was it poisonous? There were so many questions spiraling across the Twitter-verse that people went to the internet to learn more about England's spider population.
What they discovered was interesting, but what they learned about Olivia and her relationship with the eight-legged insects was even more to pique their interest.
There Are Only Three Types Of Spiders That Bite Humans
After doing some snooping, the internet learned that there are three types of spiders in the UK region that actually bite humans. According to Science Focus, "There are three common spiders in the UK that are capable of biting you: the cellar spider, the woodlouse spider, and the false widow spider.
"Their bites are painful and have been known to cause swelling for a few hours." With that information, Twitter started blowing up even more, scared that one of those three was inside Olivia's hood.
England Has A "Spider Season"
Unfortunately for the people of England, finding spiders inside isn't all that uncommon, especially during the cooler months of the year. It's then that spiders look for warmer accommodations to breed, typically finding themselves within the walls of a house.
Or, in this case, a sweatshirt. Needless to say, the people of Twitter were not amused to learn that there was actually a name for this time of the year: "spider season."
Twitter Was Scared For Olivia
Twitter was freaking out for Olivia. One, because they didn't want her in pain, but also because there was a huge spider in her hood! They weren't sure if the girl had a heart attack or stroke.
Her reaction, though, was something no one was really anticipating. Instead of screaming, yelling, and burning her sweatshirt in the backyard (not that anyone would have blamed her for any of those three reactions), Olivia did something completely different.
Spiders Are Olivia's Friends
After her friends flooded their group chat and strangers began sharing and re-tweeting the picture and making comments and threads about the ordeal, Olivia finally spoke up about the incident. Amazingly, she was totally calm!
Even after one of her friends asked how she was dealing with the traumatic experience, Olivia had nothing but praise for the arachnids, saying, "Feel fine, [to be honest] spiders are my friends." Olivia, girl, you have some nerves of absolute steal!
3.5%-6.1% Of The World's Population Has Arachnophobia
No, seriously, she does, considering that arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias in the world. According to Alan Manavitz, MD, " One of the most common phobias is arachnophobia, a debilitating fear of spiders."
So common, in fact, according to a study found in Neurobiologie der Spinnenphobie, 3.5% to 6.1% of the global population would prefer a world without spiders. As it turns out, Olivia is not one of those people! This story could have turned out so much different otherwise.
