AMC Is Going All In On Zombies
Scott Collins, the president of ad sales for AMC Networks made it clear why a third Walking Dead show is being developed recently, "This allows us to come to the marketplace with completely uninterrupted 'Walking Dead' universe content from post-Super Bowl Sunday to Thanksgiving."
The second spin-off of the monster hit will focus on two female protagonists trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Details as to where their adventure will start on the Walking Dead timeline has not yet been revealed.
As for choosing two women to headline the series, AMC's network president says it was easy because of how strongly the female characters resonate with viewers. Scott Gimple, who was replaced as showrunner of The Walking Dead a few seasons ago, has been brought back in to write the pilot alongside Matt Negrete.
For anyone wondering why AMC wants to make The Walking Dead a year round endeavor, consider this; in 2018, the show made $240 million is ad revenue! That's a lot of cash for a cable network. Add in a third helping and that number likely jumps to $300 million.
The new series in the franchise is slated to debut in 2020. Other than that, the plot is being kept under wraps while AMC tries to make it stand out in their zombie filled universe.
