Wicked is a Broadway play that was based on a novel written in 1995 calledWicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story aims to take another perspectiveofthe happenings in the Wizard of Oz. Instead, the perspective shifts to the witches of Oz rather than Dorothy. More specifically, Wicked follows the story of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda ( Glinda the Good Witch). The two begin as friends although they could not be different personality wise. They end up fighting for the attention of the same love-interest. The play also showcases their reaction to what is portrayed as a corrupt government in Oz run by the Wizard. Ultimately, Elphaba has a public fall from grace. The musical has been a huge success after its original premiere back in 2003.
