Celebrities With Touching Commemorative Tattoos
Time flies. Before you know it, your most epic memories have faded and are reduced to nothing more than fleeting glimpses into the past. Thank goodness for tattoos, right? One fantastic way to commemorate special moments or favorite people is by getting inked. Research shows that 20% of adults aged 18 and up have at least one tattoo. Body art is fun because you can decide on whatever design you want. The following celebrities chose to commemorate the times, people, and things that mean the most to them by getting inked. Wait until you see what Lady Gaga has on her skin!
Avengers! Assemble!
When you're part of one of the most lucrative film franchises ever, getting something special to commemorate that wouldn't be a bad idea. After Avengers: Endgame, the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same. What better way to hold on to their memories than with a tattoo?
Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Hemsworth each got inked, with Johansson being the mastermind behind the idea. Evans and Johansson got the Avengers logo first from New York City-based artist John Lord. He then flew to Los Angeles to tattoo everyone else.
Got Enough Tattoos Yet, Beckham?
David Beckham is almost a walking tattoo. The former star soccer player has so many tattoos, it's easy to lose to track. Where do we even begin? Beckham has two full sleeves, and with tats dispersed across his torso, the man is a living tribute.
He has quite a few commemorative tattoos for his wife, Victoria Beckham, and a bunch for his kids Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo, and Harper. Beckham didn't forget about soccer, as he also has a handful of tats that serve as a tribute to his time playing for Manchester United.
The Mother Of Dragons
Daenerys Targaryen was one of the most beloved characters in TV history. That is until things unfolded the way they did in the series finale (no spoilers) of Game of Thrones. Now that new episodes are no longer coming out, Emila Clarke took it upon herself to forever remember her role.
The Mother of Dragons received three of her "children" flying on her wrist. How sweet is that? We're trying to figure out which one is Drogon while holding back tears at the same time.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Tom Holland
Tom Holland is the new and improved Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's the successor of Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, whom fans didn't seem to be that fond of. With Holland being the man behind the mask, he's given audiences new hope, and he's doing fantastic.
To celebrate his role, Holland decided to get the Spidey emblem inked on the sole of his foot. He admitted it hurt "a lot," but he stayed dedicated to the process.
"We Will All Laugh At Gilded Butterflies."
Megan Fox used to have a tattoo portrait of Marilyn Monroe across her forearm. She removed it after some reflecting over Monroe's issues with mental health. She thought that the likeness would summon negative energy into her life.
Still, she has quite a few tattoos, including a quote on her shoulder blade. The font is Victorian, and it reads, "We will all laugh at gilded butterflies." If you're familiar with Shakespeare then you know that's from his play King Lear.
For The Throne!
The Starks were loyal to the end on Game of Thrones. They stood for each other and had one another's back even in death. Some of that comradery must have rubbed off on the real-life actors, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams.
The Stark sisters initially wanted to get matching tattoos after the series ended if they both stayed alive, but they didn't want to take any chances. In honor of the career-launching experience, the two put "07.08.09" in peach ink on their arms. That's the date they were cast.
"With Love Sade X"
Drake loves to wear his heart on his sleeve. Or in this case, on his torso. The Canadian artist isn't shy of publicly announcing his love for others, and platinum-certified vocalist Sade is someone he and his mother adore.
In a picture with his mother and the legend Sade, he captioned it, "Two very important ladies in my life." The singer was someone his mom would listen to when the rapper was young, and he grew to appreciate her as well.
Oh, Mamma Mia!
Amanda Seyfried, Ashley Lilley, and Rachel McDowall all got matching tattoos as a reminder of their meeting on the set of Mamma Mia! Not only did the three play best friends, but they also became besties in real life!
A sure-fire way to cement their sisterhood was by getting identical body art. They each inked the word "minge" on their feet. The word is a made-up term of endearment to them, but in the United Kingdom, it carries an insensitive meaning.
For The Best Friend
Rihanna is a woman with many tattoos, all of which are unique and have their own sentimental value. The wealthiest female musician received roman numerals "XI•IV•LXXXVI" on her shoulder in June of 2008. Okay, this one might not be that unique, but it is commemorative.
The number is the birthday of her best friend and manager, Melissa Forde. In true bestie fashion, Forde got numerals on her shoulder that represent Rihanna's birthday. Now neither of them have an excuse for forgetting one another's born days.
Vegemite On The Arm
Well, this is awkward. As of late 2019, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are no longer a couple, eight months after tying the knot. The question now remains; what are they going to do with the Vegemite tats on their arms?
Vegemite is a thick spread popular in Australia, where Hemsworth is from. We thought the couple that gets tattoos together, stays together, but that couldn't further from the truth these days. We bet that Cyrus keeps hers, while Hemsworth goes for a removal.
For The SKWAD!
For being one of the toughest squads out there, the cast of the 2016 film Suicide Squad proved their strength when they got matching tattoos. Each of them received "SKWAD" during the filming process, and they didn't call in a professional.
They even tattooed each other! Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Karen Fukuhara, and director David Ayers must've trusted each other to the nth degree to do that. Would you trust a co-worker to ink you up with a made-up word?
BFF's For Life?
The matching tattoos that Kendall Jenner and best friend Hailey Baldwin have are commemorative of remembering life when times were simpler. Remember those broken heart friendship necklaces that fit together like a puzzle when connected? Well, these two received the equivalent but in tattoo form.
The two didn't stop there, as one has "PR" while the other has "AY" on their hands. When they come together, you get the word PRAY. These two might be BFFs for life.
For Prince James
Possibly the most sensational athlete to exist in the past decade, LeBron James is no stranger to tattoos. When he's not playing the game he loves so much and he's out in public, you get a beautiful view of all his ink.
One of the tattoos that means the most to him is the one he has on his left forearm. It's a portrait of his son LeBron James Jr., to commemorate his first birthday. Now, "Bronny" is in his teens and making waves on the court just like his dad did.
For Her Great Grandmother
One of the most common commemorative tattoos is to honor a family member. It could be of mom, dad, or even a sibling. Star Demi Lovato has a decent-sized portrait of her great-grandmother, Mimaw, on her forearm.
She had the artist use an old picture of Mimaw as a reference and captured her at the age of 26. That's also the same age Lovato was when she got the tattoo. She calls it her "most meaningful tattoo."
Captain Jack Is Forever
To all the Disney lovers out there, this couldn't be any more epic. Similar to the Miley Cyrus faux pas, Johnny Depp once made the same mistake with Winona Ryder when he got "Winona Forever" tattooed on him. That didn't last, and he had it changed to "Wino Forever."
Something that will last is his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise. That's why he put "Jack" on his forearm with a sparrow soaring over the ocean.
Representing Hawaiian Mythology
The big guy, Jason Momoa, has a pretty neat tattoo on his arm that carries a lot of meaning. While many of the tattoos that Momoa sported for the Aquaman film weren't his because the art department added them, some were.
The Hawaiian native has one on his arm as a tribute to aumakua, or family god. Momoa's family god is a shark, so he put nine rows of triangles mathematically oriented to symbolize shark's teeth.
A Bumblebee For Manchester
Pop sensation Ariana Grande seemingly always has a number one hit on the charts. The "Thank U, Next" singer also has a reputation for getting tattoos that aren't always well thought out. Fortunately, the one she has behind her ear is one she won't soon regret.
Not too long ago, Grande played in Manchester and was present when a bomber detonated an explosive, killing twenty-three people. She put a bumblebee, Manchester's symbol, behind her ear to honor the fallen victims
Is There A Hidden Second Meaning Here?
To the untrained eye, it looks like Lady Gaga simply put music notes on her arm. It makes sense as she is a musician, after all. But those who read music can see that the four notes read "G-A-G-A" in treble clef.
That makes perfect sense, but what if you read it in bass clef? It comes out as "B-C-B-C," and conspiracy theorists think it's linked to her A Star Is Born co-star, Bradley Cooper. Lady Gaga added more fuel to those rumors by getting a simple tattoo.
A Legendary Love
John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen do this amazing thing where the two of them and their children always show us real love is still out there. Probably the most chill Hollywood couple ever, they decided to get matching tattoos in honor of their romance.
The two lovebirds elected to get each other's names, followed by the names of their children, in lower case script along their arms. It's simple but still one of the sweetest things we've seen.
Lord Of The Tattoos
When you work on a film for so long, it's kind of hard not to get close with your castmates. Lord of the Rings is a franchise that builds friendships. The stars of the cast each got matching tattoos.
Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, and John Rhys-Davies' stunt double all have "nine" written in "Elvish Tengwar" script somewhere on their bodies. Now they'll always remember those times on set.
