In the film Jaws, Robert Shaw’s character Quint describes the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in one of film histories most chilling monologues. So, before filming, Shaw was allowed to have some drinks in order to get into character. This was because Quint was supposed to be inebriated while telling the story in the film, so it made sense if Shaw was a little drunk too. However, their plan backfired, and Shaw ended up drinking so much before the scene that he had to get carried onto the set and blacked out during filming. However, he came back sober the next day and filmed the scene as we know it today.
