It is well-known that actor Richard Burton was a drinking man, especially considering the age in which he came into popularity. He was famed for his ability to hold his liquor, even in beyond-excessive amounts. In a 1969 diary entry, he mentioned that “I am so fundamentally bored with my job that only drink is capable of killing the pain”. In 1972, while filming Under Milk Wood, he claimed to be sober on set which only meant one bottle of vodka a day in comparison to his usual three or more. He eventually went on to become diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and died of a brain hemorrhage in 1984.
