Elton John Bashes Music In The ‘Lion King’ Remake
Without Elton John, the original animated Lion King just wouldn't have been the same. He was a huge part of the music for the film but wasn't involved in the latest live-action remake. He's voiced some pretty harsh opinions on what he thought of the latest film's soundtrack.
In a recent interview, the singer and songwriter said that the film's music "was messed up."
"Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn't have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost," John told GQ magazine. "The soundtrack hasn't had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the bestselling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly."
He also added that he wasn't invited to help with the production of the remake, despite wanting to be involved.
"I wish I'd been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect," said John.
John was the heart and soul behind the original 1994 Lion King soundtrack as he co-wrote many of the songs. He even won an Oscar for best original song for "Can You Feel The Love Tonight." He was also nominated for two more Academy Awards for "Hakuna Matata" and "Circle of Life." They clearly wanted to go in a different direction for the remake but it's still surprising that they didn't consult him at all.
