Welch Played A Controversial Role

Welch has also been known to play some more controversial roles. For example, in 1970 she played a transgender character, Myra Breckinridge (in a movie with the same name). However, the movie did not do well with critics or audiences, perhaps because it was incredibly explicit, especially for the time. It was based on a book that received lots of critical acclaim, but the movie did not have the same fate.

Ms. Welch was chosen as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in Film History and was ranked number three in the 100 Sexiest Stars of the Twentieth Century. In 2011, Men’s Health magazine named her as number two in “Hottest Women of All Time.”
