Lizzo Responds To ‘Truth Hurts’ Plagiarism Accusations
Lizzo has become a household name thanks to her hit song "Truth Hurts." Recently she was accused of plagiarizing the tune by producer Justin and Jeremiah Raisen and artist Mina Lioness. Lioness claims Lizzo ripped off the main line of the song "I just took a DNA test turns out I'm 100% that b----." She's finally addressed the accusations and is holding her ground.
The 31-year-old singer addressed the accusations in a lengthy Instagram post.
"... as I've shared before, in 2017, I saw a meme that resonated with me ... I sang that line in a demo, and I later used the line in 'Truth Hurts,'" Lizzo wrote on Instagram. "The men who now claim a piece of 'Truth Hurts' did not help me write any part of the song. They had nothing to do with the line or how I chose to sing it."
She continues to explain that "there was no one in the room when I wrote "Truth Hurts" except me, Ricky Reed, and my tears. That song is my life, and its words are my truth."
"I later learned that a tweet inspired the meme. The creator of the tweet is the person I am sharing my success with ... not these men. Period," said Lizzo.
Lioness has since taken to Twitter to express thankfulness to Lizzo.
"I want to publicly thank Lizzo and her entire management team for embracing me and reaching out," she wrote on Twitter. "I just took a DNA Test, turns out I'm a credited writer for the number one song on Billboard."
Even though she seems to have settled things with one party, the legal issues arent' over for the rapper. Attorneys for Lizzo have filed a lawsuit that disputes the plagiarism claims made by the two men.
