Nike Just Won An Emmy Award With Colin Kaepernick
Last year, Nike teamed up with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick to create the "Dream Crazy" ad. This week they won "Outstanding Commercial" at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The commercial also stared LeBron James and Serena Williams. This is the first time Nike has won in this category since 2002.
The launch of the commercial caused a lot of controversy with some using the hashtag #NikeBoycott online. Nike's shares also dropped when the ad premiered last September. The controversy stemmed from Kaepernick's choice to protest during the National Anthem during NFL games.
Despite the controversy, online sales rose and Nike has continued working with Kaepernick, who remains unsigned following the 2016 season.
