Peter Dinklage Breaks Record With Emmy Win
Peter Dinklage played one of the most iconic characters in television history with his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. All of his hard work paid off as Dinklage broke a record with his win at the 2019 Emmy Awards on September 22, 2019.
Dinklage won the award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. It is his fourth win in the category, which officially puts him one win ahead of the previous record-holder Aaron Paul. It was also his eighth nomination in the category, which makes him the most-nominated in the category as well.
He beat out his fellow Game of Thrones costars Alfie Allen and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for the award, as well as Jonathan Banks, Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Kelly and Chris Sullivan.
"I count myself so fortunate to be a member of a community that is nothing but all about tolerance and diversity. Because no other place could I be standing on a stage like this," said Dinklage in his speech. "It's been about 10 years, all said and done, from the moment I met David [Benoiff] and Dan [Weiss] till now ... We did nothing but sweat, we did nothing but laugh ... we literally walked through fire and ice for you—literally— and I would do it all again in a heartbeat."
The show itself won the award for outstanding drama series, but Dinklage is the only castmember from Game of Thrones to win an Emmy for acting in the eight seasons of the show.
