From Bad To Worse: Here Are The 2021 Razzie Award Nominations

Each year, the satirical award show, The Golden Raspberry Awards, graces actors with its inevitable presence. They might not like it, but being nominated for a Razzie is still recognition for work done on a film, just not in the way they wish!

But the unfortunate nominees for 2021 have been chosen, and actors like Anne Hathaway and Adam Sandler will be fighting to lose the not-so-coveted Golden Raspberry Award. Who else has been not-so-luckily nominated? Keep reading to find out!

For some very strange reason, a studio decided it was time to remake a classic with Robert Downey Jr., Dolittle. Well, the film wound up doing very little in terms of humor, with horrible CGI-talking animals and stale humor that. Even for a dry-humored actor like RDJ, it was a bit much.

In the end, Dolittle lost Universal a whopping $50-100 million, the biggest box office bomb in recent history. And with a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's no wonder the film ended up being nominated for nine Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture.

Worst Actor: Adam Sandler For Hubie Halloween

Adam Sandler, he's the type of actor who viewers have to take him for what he is -- a goofy guy who enjoys concocting weird antics with his buddies. And that's exactly what he does in the 2020 film Hubie Halloween. Playing the title character, Sandler did what he does best, threw on a weird voice, and did what is best described as "Adam Sandler things."

Those "things" aren't for everyone, though, and many people don't appreciate a grown man's childishness. He was nominated for one of the least-coveted awards in Hollywood, the Golden Razzie for Worst Actor.

Worst Screen Combo: Harrison Ford & "Dog" In Call Of The Wind

Was the film cute? Sure. Was it hard to get past the fact the Harrison Ford's companion for the entire film was a very unconvincing and fake-looking CGI "Dog?" Yes. The dog looks like it was from the same animators that made the Green Lantern suit. And for those who haven't seen that film, the comparison is far from a compliment.

After a career playing Indiana Jones and Han Solo, Ford needs to be knocked down a few pegs. And if that means being nominated for Worst Screen Combo with his CGI pal, so be it.

Poor Anne Hathaway didn't just get nominated for one Razzie for Worst Actress but two, one for her role as Elena McMahon in the mystery drama The Last Thing He Wanted and the other for her horrid interpretation of Roald Dahl's character of the Grand High Witch Bruxa Rainha.

Long story short, both of Hathaway's performances were butchered from all fronts, from the viewers to the critics and press. It just wasn't a great two-film streak for the Academy Award-winning actress. Here's to hopefully having a better year next year, Anne.

Living a straight-edged life away from her troubling past, "Zu" Gamble finds herself in an interesting predicament as the sold guardian of her half-sister, a young autistic girl named Music. The film wasn't received well, with a lot of the criticism going towards poor Golden Globe nominated-actress Kate Hudson's performance.

While she looks and sings beautifully in the film, it doesn't stray from the fact that her portrayal of Zu wasn't great. And it looks like the people have spoken since Hudson's been nominated for a 2021 Razzie for Worst Actress.

Worst Screen Combo: Lauren Lapkus & David Spade In The Wrong Missy

It's hard to watch David Spade attempt to portray a normal guy with combed hair, a tucked-in shirt, and a personality that doesn't have cleaver comeback quips. Throwing that character into a film with an over-the-top comedian like Lauren Lapkus and the entire film is thrown off-kilter -- nothing was right.

Each time the two were in the frame together, aka virtually the entire movie, things seemed forced, weird, and like something was missing (most likely Spade showing any sort of emotion). And so, they were nominated for Worst Screen Combo.

Worst Screen Combo: Robert Downey Jr. & His Utterly Unconvincing "Welsh" Accent In Dolittle

There is a reason why Dolittle made it to the Worst Picture nomination list, and part of that reason has to do with a certain on-screen duo -- Robert Downey Jr. and "his utterly unconvincing "Welsh" accent." An unconvincing accent does a lot to deter from a movie; it's hard to focus on anything when the sounds coming out of the lead actor's mouth sound bizarre and inhuman.

But what's done is done, and now there is proof of what RDJ thought was an acceptable Welsh accent for all to admire for years to come! He and his accent are up for the Worst Screen Combo Razzie.

The questionable accent, the obvious Stockholm syndrome, and trying to make a kidnapping look fun and exotic don't really work in actress Anna-Maria Sieklucka's favor in 365 Days. It doesn't help that the movie was poorly received, and Sieklucka's performance as Laura brings the movie to a whole new level of "what in the world is going on."

So, it might not come as too much of a surprise to learn that Sieklucka's portrayal of Laura wound up getting her nominated for one of the least-coveted awards, the Razzie Award for Worst Actress.

Charles Band needs more than a Worst Director Razzie Award to properly shame him for the catastrophes that are the three Barbie & Kendra films. Live-action, the three films are each bad in their own individual way. There's Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King, Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51, and, finally, Corona Zombies.

Each is just as real as the last, and none of them should have made it to a screen. Thankfully, Charles Band has, hopefully, found the error of his ways with his Razzie nomination for Worst Director.

Worst Remake, Rip-off, Or Sequel: Wonder Woman 1984

The unfortunate thing about Wonder Woman 1984 was that it was DC's chance to prove to the MCU that they had what it takes to make a successful film since they were able to do so with the first Wonder Woman flick. Alas, it didn't turn out that way.

Instead, viewers watched a movie that, while beautifully shot at times, lacked substance and depth. It used cliches to get points across, leaving little to be desired in the storyline. And thus, Wonder woman 1984, we're sorry to announce your nomination for the 2021 Razzie for Worst Remake, Rip-off, Or Sequel.

Maddie Ziegler is pretty much in all of Sia's projects, and the 2021 film Music was no different. The thing is, a movie is a whole lot different than dancing around a music video and it was obvious Ziegler wasn't up for the challenge.

Her portrayal of the young girl Music not only offended viewers but one writer from the New York Times said she was, "...indistinguishable from mockery." Yikes. With a review like that Ziegler should be pleased she was at least recognized by one award committee, even if it is the Razzies, which she was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress.

It really says something when an actor is nominated for Worst Screen Combo with not another person or even CGI counterpart, but their own voice. Adam Sandler's simpleton voice must have really grated on people's nerves for that nomination to go through!

But as with all things Adam Sandler, viewers going into his films need to take what they're about to see with a grain of salt, even if that means powering through 102 minutes of the actor and his grating simpleton voice that sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

In an astonishing display of playing a role very much outside his typical wheelhouse, David Spade ditched his usual happy-go-lucky character for a straight-laced nerd with a combover. Walking into a Happy-Madison production, viewers usually veer to see the wild antics of an actor like Spade, but he did something totally different in The Wrong Miss.

He was boring, dull, and took the nerdy character of Tim and didn't really do much with it. As such, Spade found himself on the list of nominees for Worst Supporting Actors at the 2021 Razzie Awards.

Film critic Roger Ebert probably said it best, explaining his thought in his review of Fantasy Island by saying, "Fans of Lucy Hale (who is hereby advised to let any further calls from Wadlow go directly to voicemail) will be put out with how thoroughly she is wasted here."

Young, dumb, and wanting "revenge" as her fantasy, Hale's talents as a suspense actress are thoroughly wasted in the want-to-be horror film. As such, Hale wound up on the nominee's list for Worst Supporting Actress for her role as Melanie Cole in Fantasy Island.

"Dumber-than-hair...", "...this should not be anyone's idea of entertainment...," "...dismal dialogue...," these are all reviews from various sources regarding the movie 365 Days. There really aren't even words to describe how truly bizarre this film is or why anyone thought it was a good idea to make.

Apparently, a mafia boss kidnapping a young woman isn't a lot of people's definition of "entertainment." We'd say the film's rating plummeted after dropping on Netflix, but that would mean it was high to begin with. A movie can't really go lower than a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also nominated for Worst Screenplay and Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.

Playing pretty much the same character in each of the films, it may come as little surprise that Willis was nominated for each of the three films. Viewers can only handle so much non-teenage brooding and guns in a single year!

Fantasy Island is the horror film no one asked for and yet here it is, lying out in front of us with its 7% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Based on the popular television series of the same name, the film follows a bunch of strangers as they're transported to a fantastical island that has all of their wildest dreams coming true.

But for some reason, their dreams turn into nightmares. The OG characters deserved better than this reimaged horror screenplay that churned out nothing more than cheap thrills and five Razzie Awards, including Worst Screenplay.

The Ron Howard-directed film Hillbilly Elegy had all of the bones for a great film, but it didn't hit the mark. Instead, Howard made strange calls throughout the movie, including focusing on the competition for an internship at the center of the action.

It's not like he had a book to reference or anything. Oh, wait, he did. Either way, his project didn't bode well with viewers or critics, winding up with a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes even with its all-star cast of Amy Adams and Glenn Close. In the end, Ron Howard found himself nominated for a Worst Director Razzie.

Considering the idea for Music began back in 2015, one would think Sia had plenty of time to tweak and rework the film before its 2021 release date. It didn't turn out that way, with negative reviews coming in left and right, especially regarding Sia's depiction of autism.

As the film's writer and director, a lot of the backlash surrounding Music has fallen back on Sia, with Johnny Oleksinski of the New York Post saying, "Sia should leave the director's chair behind." And with that lovely review, the singer was nominated for a Worst Director Razzie.

While Chevy Chase isn't the only cast member of The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee to deserve a Razzie Award, he wound up being the only one nominated. But as one of the most self-aware characters in the film, it's easy to see why. Playing an over-exaggerated and self-mocking version of himself, Chevy is seen driving for Uber after going broke.

As it turned out, "he" spent all his money on "extracurricular activities." He's more so a self-parody than anything else, which works when your goal is to win a Worst Supporting Razzie (it probably wasn't his ultimate goal, but here we are).
