Russia Is Making Their Own Chernobyl Mini-Series
Russia apparently isn't too pleased with HBO's version of Chernobyl and has decided to remake the mini-series with a more patriotic edge. The Russian version is being produced by state TV and will push a narrative that a CIA spy was involved with the tragic incident.
The new Chernobyl will air on NTV and satisfy a country-wide demand by Russian journalists and tabloid writers for a different take. Just how different the more homegrown program will be from HBO's is unclear. The creator of Chernobyl, after all, took intense care into taking every detail of every survivor story into account.
The plot of NTV's Chernobyl will follow the supposed CIA spy as he tries to gather intelligence about the power plant. It will also follow the Russian operative tasked with tracking him down.
The show's director, Alexey Muradov, told Komsomolskaya Pravda, "There is a theory that the Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that on the day of the explosion an agent of the enemy's intelligence services was present at the station."
According to multiple Russian tabloids, the biggest thing HBO failed to do was show, "the most important part – our victory." Whatever that may mean, we will soon find out.
