Elle cites model Maria Borges as the first model to take on the Victoria’s Secret runway with her natural afro. Borges told the publication, “I told my agent that I would really like to walk the 2015 Victoria’s Secret fashion show whilst rocking my short Afro hair. It felt amazing… I felt like my third appearance at a Victoria’s Secret show would become more meaningful or impactful if I could help a few women embrace their natural beauty.” Hopefully, Borges did inspire, because she certainly looked stunning on the runway with her natural hair. In recent years, there have been many campaigns in the fashion industry to integrate more diversity and widen their beauty standards.
