The Show Was Originally Presented Before Valentine’s Day

Model Alek Wek was a newcomer to the Victoria’s Secret runway that same year in 2001. She wore this interesting lingerie set, that includes a sheer, red balconette bra with heart-shaped skivvies to match! While the show usually airs before Christmastime, it used to be held in February just before Valentine’s Day as a way to boost lingerie sales. You can see here that that was clearly the goal, especially based on Wek’s crazy underwear. Perhaps this was when Victoria’s Secret began to shift into more complicated costume designs and away from their simple ones.
