The one year that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show didn’t happen was in 2004, after backlash from the “Nipplegate” controversy at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show that year. Ed Razek told Elle, “Everybody got very cautious — including us. Not that we were doing anything salacious.” To make up for the show’s absence, Victoria’s Secret hosted the “Angels Across America” tour, sending Gisele Bündchen, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, and Alessandra Ambrosio on a bus to four different cities to meet their fans. Adriana Lima told Elle, “I got to meet and connect with people from all over the country… It was a very humbling experience.”
