Talk Show Feuds That Are Worth Discussing
It's no secret that not everyone in Hollywood gets along with one another. And when two people who are feuding happen to work on the same talk show, all bets are off. Cattiness, shade, and arguments surrounding hot-topics are the name of the talk show game when it comes to beefing co-hosts.
The View, for example, can't seem to hire people who don't feud, with host after host having some sort of issue with their co-stars. Keep reading to learn about all the best feuds!
Kelly Ripa & Michael Strahan Of Live! With Kelly and Michael
While Kelly Ripa and former NFL star Michael Strahan didn't necessarily have a feud while they were working together on Live! With Kelly and Michael, they had a bit of a falling out. In 2016, Strahan made a choice to leave the talk show in favor of an offer with Good Morning America. The decision didn't bode well with Ripa.
During an interview with Time, Strahan said, "it was treated as if I was the guy who walked in and said, 'I'm leaving.' That part was totally misconstrued, mishandled in every way... you can't convince people to like you. I haven't spoken to [Ripa] in a long time."
Kelly Osbourne & Giuliana Rancic of Fashion Police
In a 2015 interview with TheWrap, Fashion Police's Kelly Osbourne didn't hold back when it came to talking about her co-host, Giuliana Rancic. The interview came six months after Osbourne opted to leave the reality show behind, and after Rancic made some rude comments about actress Zendaya's appearance and smell at the Academy Awards.
The tv-personality told TheWrap, "I will never admit to liking Giuliana because I don't. "I don't think she's a good person, and I think she's a liar." How's that for speaking the truth? The good news is, it seems like Osbourne is over the feud.
Meghan McCain & Whoopi Goldberg On The View
In 2020, The View co-hosts Meghan McCain, and Whoopi Goldberg went head-to-head on a recent trend that has hit social media, women posting black and white pictures. The thing is, what started off as a discussion on empowerment, wound up being a playground argument on the 2019 Women's March.
Specifically, they were heated about an interview that happened with one of the organizers. McCain argued that all of the leaders of the march had strong anti-Semitic ties, while Goldberg jumped in saying one did. McCain threw some "I was at the interview, and you weren't" shade at Goldberg when, plot twist, the other host was at the interview, too.
Jay Leno & David Letterman
According to an interview David Letterman had with Oprah, he and Jay Leno used to be friends before the entire Tonight Show feud of 1991. The root of their issues came when Johnny Carson retired from hosting the late-night talk show, and Leno got the gig over Letterman. Thus, their relationship as frenemies began!
The fact that they wound up having talk shows slotted at the same time didn't help matters! And, yes, we know there was that one commercial they did in 2010, poking fun at their "feud." But, Letterman will say that he and Leno hadn't spoken for 25 years prior to the ad!
Rosie O'Donnell & Elisabeth Hasselbeck On The View
In 2007, Rosie O'Donnell said goodbye to her position as a host of The View, following a heated argument with fellow co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Apparently, the two ladies didn't agree with each other on some aspects of the military, leading to a heated argument and O'Donnell's departure from the talk show.
Then, when it was announced in 2012 that O'Donnell would be returning to host the show, Hasselbeck had a few choice words. "Here comes to The View, the very woman who's spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network ... ready to regain The View with a seat at that table."
Howard Stern & Jay Leno
Unlike some of the other feuds happening on this list, talk show host Jay Leno is very open and aware when it comes to his "feud" with radio talk show host Howard Stern. While Stern has called Leno every name in the book, going as far as saying he isn't "fit to scrub David Letterman's feet," Leno never engaged.
During an interview with USA Today, Leno said, "I didn't get into the feud, because you’re not going to win a feud with Howard. Howard is good. If you start that feud, boom, you’re down. So if you just let it roll, it’s fine." He even listens to Stern's show!
Jenny McCarthy & Barbara Walters On The View
When it came to Jenny McCarthy's relationship with Barbara Walters, let's just say she had to walk on thin ice for the year she was part of The View cast. Producers were trying to push Walters out of the show, something she was not willing to do quietly, and it seemed like she just threw all of her anger at McCarthy.
In her book, McCarthy says, "Barbara would check out what I was wearing. If she didn't agree with it, or it didn't compliment her outfit, I had to change. I was a human Barbie doll." Not to mention the other times Walters would yell at her poor co-host!
Rosie O'Donnell & Whoopi Goldberg On The View
It seems as though the hosts of The View are all about their drama. And, ironically, when it came to comedians Rosie O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg in 2014, there was nothing but feuding between the two. According to O'Donnell, Goldberg was unpleasant to work with, didn't give guests the time of day, and fought over who was going to moderate discussions.
During an interview with journalist Ramin Setoodeh, O'Donnell got very candid about her experience with Goldberg, saying, "Whoopi Goldberg was as mean as anyone has ever been on television to me, personally—while I was sitting there. The worst experience I've ever had on live television was interacting with her."
Larry King & Piers Morgan
For ex-CNN host Larry King, he and Piers Morgan have been feuding about who killed the nine at night interview slot since the latter took over. And, as celebrities tend to do, the two men took their argument to Twitter. Let us tell you; their thread went on for a minute. So here are some highlights:
The Twitter rants started after King called Morgan's interview style pompous," a total baiting move. Morgan then proceeded to clap back, saying, "get over it, you daft old goat, you wrecked CNN's 9 pm ratings, not me." Then a wife got involved, someone called someone else a toad.
Tamar Braxton & The Real Hosts
Tamar Braxton was fired from the talk show The Real back in 2016, but that didn't stop the TV personality from reigniting a three-year feud with her co-hosts. During a segment on The Wendy Williams show, Williams asked Braxton if she would consider going back to The Real, her response was a resounding no.
And the "no" isn't for any reason other than her ex-co-hosts supposed "cattiness." But, don't worry, host Tamera Mowry-Housley had a few things to say. "I have been in the business for over 20 years. And my reputation is not one of cattiness." It doesn't look like Braxton will be rejoining that cast anytime soon.
Sharon Osbourne & The View Hosts
In 2013, The Talk host Sharon Osbourne made a slew of enemies in the form of The View hosts. Well, minus Barbara Walters. The outspoken British host wasn't holding back her feelings regarding the rest of the cast, though, when asked about the competition talk show on Arsenio Hall.
What started off as a nice conversation about the differences between the two shows turned into Osbourne saying some not-so-nice things. During the interview, Osbourne said, "Cut to the chase, stop being polite. Barbara, idolize her, divine, she is super-human, I love Barbara Walters. The rest can go **** themselves!"
Clinton Kelly & Stacy London On What Not To Wear
Granted, What not to Wear isn't a talk show in the literal sense, but the hosts of the reality show feud so often that it has a place on this list. Clinton Kelly and Stacy London ran into the issue where working with the same person for so long made everything the other did annoying.
During an interview with Austin American Statesman, Kelly said, "We spent so much time together for ten years...it got to be like, 'OK, we need a break from each other.'" But it looked like they needed longer of a break, because years after the final episode aired, London blocked Kelly on Twitter!
Megyn Kelly & Jane Fonda On NBC
In 2018, Megyn Kelly of NBC re-sparked a feud with actress Jane Fonda. In 2017, when interviewing Fonda, Kelly just so happened to slip in a question regarding plastic surgery. Well, the 80-year-old didn't exactly appreciate the random line of questioning. So, what does the talk show host do? She brings Fonda back in a year later, asking the same question!
During an interview with Variety, Fonda said, "I was stunned [by the plastic surgery question]. It was so inappropriate. It showed that she's not that good an interviewer." Kelly's response was saying Fonda was pulling a "poor me routine." Whatever that means.
Leah Remini & Sharon Osbourne On The Talk
For Leah Remini, she wasn't going to take getting fired from The Talk sitting down. Instead, she decided to take to Twitter, saying that her ex-co-host Sharon Osbourne was abusing her power and had her fired from the talk show. Of course, the fiery Osbourne didn't take kindly to those rumors.
Osborne tweeted, "I have never been in the position to hire or fire anyone. That being said, my only wish is that Leah would just stop all this negative, unprofessional, and childish behavior. It's been seven months...it's time to move on." Too bad that wasn't enough for Remini, who thought Osbourne made the statement for publicity purposes.
Conan O'Brien & Jay Leno
There was a time in 2009 when Conan O'Brien took over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. But, due to poor ratings, NBC let O'Brien go and asked for Leno back. The swap struck a cord between the two men, and other late-night hosts were even choosing sides.
O'Brien even joked about the event, saying, "I just want to say to the kids out there watching, you can do anything you want in life. Unless Jay Leno wants to do it, too." At least we're hoping it was a joke, and he wasn't throwing some sly shade at Leno.
Star Jones & Barbara Walters On The View
The View hosts Star Jones and Barbara Walters had a falling out after Star left the show due to an un-renewed contract. Apparently, Jones felt blindsided, stating that she felt as though she was being fired since she and Walters had an agreement of sorts. Jones went on to slam Walters in various interviews.
During one interview with Us Magazine, Jones said, "It's a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character."
Bill O'Reilly & Jon Stewart
When it comes to The O'Reilly Factor host Bill O'Reilly and The Daily Show host Jon Stewart, debates are the name of the game. With O'Reilly's political standing more conservative and Stewart more left-leaning, the two have butt heads more than a few times during their careers.
In a "letter of appreciation" written by O'Reilly on Stewart's last day, he said, "Jon Stewart is being held captive by a self-imposed left-wing view of society...I'm sure he would reply with a sardonic put down of my audience as out of touch white people, but then again most folks who watch me actually held a job at some point."
Adam Savage & Jamie Hyneman On Myth Busters
Again, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman technically aren't talk show hosts, but Myth Busters is close enough, so we're just going to roll with it. For fans of the show, we're sorry to say that the chemistry these two have on-screen doesn't translate over to real life. The two aren't even friends!
During an interview with Business Insider, Savage said, "Jamie and I make no bones about the fact that we're not friends … We don't get along very well together on a personal level. We do not choose to hang out if we don't have to be in proximity."
Candace Cameron Bure & Raven Symoné On The View
While Candace Cameron Bure & Raven Symoné aren't necessarily the hosts of the morning talk show, The View, the did come on for a segment. Let's just say it seems like The View is the spot for controversial conversations! In the case of Bure and Symoné, it came in the form of that bakery refusing to make a cake for a same-sex couple.
Bure, who is extremely religious, said, "I don't think this is discrimination at all. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with." And Symoné, an openly gay woman, clapped back, saying, "I refuse to associate myself with you right now."
Ann Curry & Matt Lauer On Today
If you had the chance to watch Today with Ann Curry and Matt Lauer, then you know that they had close to zero on-screen chemistry. It was tense, awkward, and viewers could tell something was going on between the two hosts behind the scenes. As it turns out, the two couldn't stand one another.
One year after she was hired, Curry was fired from what she called a "boys club." Apparently, tensions were high on set, with "the boys" making fun of her fashion choices and awkward on-screen moments, both of which don't make for a good work environment or healthy co-worker relationship.
