Here’s Why Taylor Swift’s Fans Are Angry At Tool
On August 23, Taylor Swift debuted her new album Lover. It hit No. 1 on the charts with 885,000 in the first week. But her new album likely won't keep its crown because of the band Tool.
Tool released its 13th album, Fear Inoculum, on August 30. According to Hits Daily Double, the album is projected to overtake Taylor Swift's place, with at least 220,000 sales. This is without any help from direct marketing strategies or tour bundles. Swift employed a plethora of bundle options from merchandise to concert tickets, and Lover only reached 200,000 sales in the second week.
Now, Taylor Swift has no problem with rock or metal bands. In the past, she has told Jonathon Davis that she loves Korn and posed for photos with Marilyn Manson. It's Swift's fans who are blowing this up into a competition.
Swifties angrily responded to chart data on Twitter, encouraging other fans to keep streaming Lover and block "whoever Tool is." To be fair, many of these fans aren't familiar with Tool's decades-long musical career. If you're into some internet drama, it's time to kick up your feet and watch the music chart competition continue.
Considering how expensive Fear Inoculum is, its success is impressive. The physical album comes with an HD video screen, speakers, and a 36-page booklet, creating an immersive experience. Hence, the package sold for $45, whereas Lover only costs $13.
Time will tell whether Swift's ruthless fans can keep Lover at No. 1.
