In November 2012, an episode of the show was dedicated to reparative therapy. Those who believe in this type of therapy maintain that homosexuality is an illness and mental health issue that can be cured like a disease. Although homosexuality does not appear in any medical diagnosis manuals, it is not considered as an ailment. Yet, in the episode, Oz featured guest was Julie Hamilton, a representative of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH). This outraged LGBT advocacy groups and went against countless medical associations. Although Oz himself admits that there is no data to prove the positive results of reparative therapy, there was a wide consensus that it was unprofessional and wrong to even have Hamilton present on the show.
