The Life And Controversies Of Dr. Oz
Real Age Drug Marketing
Dr. Oz is a spokesperson as well as an advisor for the website RealAge.com. The New York Post has criticized this website for its supposedly unethical pharmaceutical marketing techniques. Apparently, the website asks for basic medical information from the site’s visitors to determine their true biological age. In turn, it then uses the visitor’s medical information for pharmaceutical marketing tactics. The website provides tips on how to stay healthy, which vitamins to take, what to eat, etc based on the users’ “real” biological ages. However, drug companies then pay RealAge to send marketing emails to its members about prescription recommendations without any formal diagnosis based on the member’s symptoms, an incredibly unsafe and harmful pharmaceutical practice.
