These Celebs Aren’t Fans Of Meghan Markle
Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced they were dating in 2016, there have been equal parts support and backlash for the Suits star. The duo was set up on a blind date by a mutual friend and clearly hit it off, seeing as they tied the knot in May 2018. Despite their nuptials, that hasn't stopped celebs from voicing their less-than-nice opinions about the new Duchess. While some claim she's in it for the fame, others have revealed their distaste for the whole royal family.
Erin Foster Called Meghan Out In A Hilariously Petty Instagram Story
Erin Foster is a comedy writer and performer who is no stranger to blasting celebs on her Insta-stories, including Meghan. In November 2017, Erin posted an old photo of Meghan on Deal or No Deal with the caption "Never forget." The hilarious story only got snarkier from there.
The next picture was of Meghan again on Deal or No Deal — this time holding a briefcase. Over the briefcase, Erin added, "This briefcase is filled with my plans to be famous." Oooh, girl! The petty photos continued, and although they were funny, they pretty blatantly accused Meghan of being a fame-hungry social climber. Ah, gotta love social media.
Wendy Williams Thinks Meghan Is A Random Princess Looking For A Game
Talk show host Wendy Williams is not shy about speaking her mind, especially when it comes to “random” princesses. Wendy has been making salty comments about Meghan since 2016 when Prince Harry and Meghan revealed they were dating.
On her show, Wendy predicted the pair would break up, saying “There's way too much drama with her and this will not work out." In 2017, Wendy told her audience that the future princess is "a bit of a wild card, you know because she goes from being the Deal or No Deal girl. So this is a girl looking for a game." Her rudest comment about Meghan however, came from an interview with 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord. After talking with AnnaLynne about Meghan’s small cameo on the show’s reboot, she couldn’t help but refer to her as a “random princess.”
Piers Morgan Says Meghan Ghosted Him
On an episode of Loose Women, Piers Morgan didn’t hold back when Meghan's name came up. Morgan claims he and Meghan became friends after adding each other on Twitter. According to the British journalist, after he followed her, she sent him a DM saying, “I’m a massive fan of yours, this is great.”
From there, the two exchanged emails and eventually met in person at Wimbledon. Piers asked Meghan if she’d like to join him at a local pub and two ended up hanging out and chatting for a few hours. Piers considered Meghan a good friend after their encounter, so when she ghosted him, he was confused — and judging by his interview — salty.
Katie Hopkins Called Meghan a Budget Princess Di
British media personality Katie Hopkins has been vocal about her opinions on Meghan. In her first public display of aversion, she bashed Meghan for being “Instagram-addicted” while also dubbing her an “American Kate Middleton." Calling her “a budget Princess Di with an Oscar-winning innocent face" was the cherry on top.
The blows only got worse when Prince Harry pleaded with the media to respect his fiance’s privacy. Katie wrote, "If you don't want Miss Sparkle trolled on social media, advise her to stay away from posting pictures of bananas spooning on her Instagram account." The Daily Mail writer also added, "If Meghan — a woman who acts, and does PR for a living — doesn't understand that then, dare I suggest, maybe she isn't suitable girlfriend material, let alone a potential bride?" Ouch.
Katy Perry Dissed Meghan's Wedding Gown
Well, this just seems mean and petty, given some of pop singer Katy Perry's dubious fashion choices. But Ms. Perry opted to trash the Givenchy-designed gown worn by Meghan Markle on her wedding day. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Katy made it clear that she was not a fan of the dress.
“I would have done one more fitting. I’m never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting," she said, adding “Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!”
Meghan’s Ex-Husband Is Still Angry About How She Ended Their Relationship
Before Meghan and Prince Harry shacked up, she was married to producer Trevor Engelson. While Trevor has been somewhat hush-hush about his feelings toward his ex-wife, royal biographer Andrew Morton hasn’t. Morton released a book called Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, which sheds light on Trevor’s apparent hatred of the now-princess.
In his book, he writes that “Trevor went from cherishing Meghan to, as one friend observed, 'feeling like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe.” Adding fuel to the flame, Morton writes that the pair had been married for two years and Meghan was filming Suits in Canada when out of the blue she mailed her wedding ring back to Trevor. According to the author, Trevor can “barely contain his anger” towards Meghan, even after all of these years.
Cory Vitiello Posted A Petty Instagram Video That We Sort Of Loved
Speaking of ex-lovers, Cory Vitiello was Meghan's most recent boyfriend before she met Prince Harry. Meghan and Corey met while she was living in Toronto for Suits. The former-actress began dating Corey, who is a well-known chef, and the pair seemingly hit it off. They became official and dated for two years before splitting.
Sounds innocent enough, right? Not long after the couple split, Meghan began dating Harry. But according to some rumors, Meghan was seeing both men at one point. Although Cory eventually said in an interview that Meghan "is a wonderful girl," that didn't stop him from posting an Instagram video of him cooking a mouth-watering chicken just hours after Prince Harry revealed he proposed over a roast chicken. Coincidence? We think not.
Prince Andrew's Cold Reception To The Bride-To-Be
Following her engagement, Meghan was invited to meet members of the royal family in December 2017. But according to numerous sources, not everyone was taken with the Duchess-to-be. While Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were warm and welcoming to Meghan — even extending their formal blessing to the couple — Prince Andrew was quite the opposite.
According to Express, Prince Andrew "displayed a noticeable dislike of Meghan compared to the rest of the royals.” The Duke of York didn’t say anything mean in particular to Meghan, but his reception was blatantly cold.
Kate Hawkesby Didn't Hold Back
Kate Hawkesby is a New Zealand-based radio personality who has been open about her dislike of the new royal family member. In January 2018, she proclaimed, “I have a thing about Meghan Markle. I don’t trust her.” She went on to say, “It’s a theory based on nothing more than gut instinct. Here’s the thing — she feels fake. Opportunistic. Like she’s there for the wrong reasons.”
Kate then called out Meghan for trying to change the royal family's long-standing traditions. She asked listeners, "What's the one thing your Mum always tells you when you go into a new relationship?" to which she replied, "Don't go in believing you can change the person. Meghan? She's going in thinking she can change more than 1000 years of history!" Hawkesby then added, "It's the monarchy for goodness sake, not a teenage school project."
Amy Schumer Can't Imagine A Worse Wedding Than Meghan And Harry's
While Amy Schumer has never said anything outright offensive about Meghan, she didn't hold back her opinion on the royal wedding when asked. A few days before the royal nuptials, Amy appeared on Sydney's Fitzy & Wippa radio show where she joked about the many downsides of Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding.
During the interview, the comedienne said, "I think it’s so funny. I mean, this poor girl. Your wedding, everyone says, ‘It’s your day,’ right? ‘You’re the bride, it’s your day.’ Meghan’s like, ‘No it’s not!’" Amy added, "She has to meet all these foreign dignitaries you’ve never met before, it’s so much pressure. Can you imagine having a worse wedding? That would suck!"
Daniel Radcliffe Doesn't Like Meghan, Or Anyone In The Royal Family For That Matter
English actor Daniel Radcliffe knows a thing or two about being a wizard. He doesn't, however, know anything about being a royalist. The London-born actor has been pretty vocal about not understanding his country's admiration for the royal family.
Unlike many of his peers, Daniel doesn't believe the hype. He told the Daily Beast, "I am not a royalist. Not at all... I just don't see the use of the monarchy — though I'm a fierce patriot." He added, "I'm proud proud proud of being English, but I think the monarchy symbolizes a lot of what was wrong with the country."
Jan Moir Wants To Know Who Meghan Markle Thinks She Is
Jan Moir is a British columnist who didn't hold back in a column for Daily Mail in February 2018. The piece, which is titled "Why does Meghan Markle need to be so huggy wuggy?" starts with Jan proclaiming, "I have begun to ask myself, who the heck does Meghan Markle think she is?"
Jan goes on to write, "It seems far, far too early for Meghan to go into full Diana mode and unfurl any fondly imagined royal superpowers." She also added, "Or to start believing that she can change the lives of troubled citizens merely by bequeathing a megawatt smile and a consolation hug around their luckless shoulders." Someone's not mincing their words here!
How Do Kate And Pippa Feel About Meghan?
Ah, who doesn't love a good cat fight — especially one that involves the royal family? Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry began dating, tabloids have largely focused on Queen Elizabeth's approval of the Suits star. But how do Kate and Pippa feel about their new sister-in-law?
Since 2016, rumors have swirled about the murky relationship between the three girls. According to various sources, Meghan just doesn't get along with Kate and hasn't attempted to build a relationship with Pippa. As for why the girls have feuded in the past, it could be chocked up to Meghan breaking several royal traditions. Or maybe it's because Meghan and Kate both have their eye on the same prize...
Meghan, Kate, And The Battle To Be The People's Princess
There have been lots of rumors as to why Meghan and Kate Middleton don't get along. Some say that Kate has been repeatedly embarrassed by Meghan's "daring" fashion choices. Others think Kate doesn't approve of Meghan's sex scenes from Suits.
But the most compelling reason people speculate the two don't like each other is that they are gunning for the same prize — to be the "People's Princess." The Daily Star wrote that both girls have been trying for nearly two years now to outshine each other in an effort to be viewed as the new Diana. While neither has publicly commented about disliking the other, we can't help but notice that the girls are rarely seen together, except when they have to be!
Was There An Attempt To Mend The Rift Between Kate And Meghan?
In March of 2019, all eyes were on Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle when they attended a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. Amid all the rumors of a feud between the two Duchesses, people were paying especially close attention. One body language expert decided that the rift was surely over after watching the two interact.
"It was clear Kate and Meghan were keen to signal bonds of warm friendship yesterday, rather than the either distant or over-congruent displays from the last couple of outings," said Judi James. She did add that Kate seemed to be putting in more effort than Meghan, although the latter did appear to respond to Kate's warm greeting.
What About Pippa?
Kate and Meghan might not be best friends, but seeing as they are sisters now means they do they have to spend time together. Some say this new relationship between the two has resulted in Pippa harboring some not-so-nice feelings toward the Suits star.
An insider reached out to In Touch saying that Kate and Pippa used to be "thick as thieves" and "used to do everything together and speak daily." However, since Meghan has come into the picture and "lives practically under the same roof as Kate at Kensington Palace" the dynamics have changed and Pippa feels like the third wheel.
This Royal Had To Reschedule Her Wedding
When Meghan and Prince Harry announced they were engaged in late 2017, it was all anyone could talk about. But the royal nuptials overshadowed another royal's wedding.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have been an item for more than seven years. The two were set to marry in September 2018 but had to reschedule their wedding thanks to Meghan and Harry. Since the newlyweds are going to be busy with their foreign press tour in September and unable to attend the wedding, Eugenie and Jack postponed their vows until a bit later in the year.
Chrissie Swan Thinks Meghan Is Fake and Doesn’t Care Who Knows It
Australian TV personality Chrissie Swan has been one of Meghan's biggest critics. She first voiced her opinion on Meghan on her personal Facebook page saying, “For some reason, I still haven’t warmed to her. It’s her manner. She looks like she’s performing. To me, she looks like she’s portraying a concocted humility. Acting.”
Chrissie’s Facebook page turned into an all-out Meghan roast with fans of Chrissie talking about their feelings. One fan wrote, “I have reservations too. I'm not sure she loves the man as much as the role,” while another said, “OMG I totally agree. A bit fake.” Not everyone agreed with Chrissy though, and her comments got her labeled as a bully.
Megyn Kelly Is Not About The Royals' Self-Pity
TV show host Megyn Kelly has not held back with how she feels not only about Meghan Markle but about her husband, Prince Harry. According to Kelly, she feels as though the duo wallows in their own self-pity, hoping people will like them for it.
Speaking of the infamous Oprah interview, Kelly posted on Twitter, saying, "M & H pretend that no royal has had it worse in the press than they have. Give me a break. Have you ever seen such privileged people wallowing in their own (perceived) victimhood like this?"
Candace Owens Believes Their Relationship Is Toxic
TV show host and political commentator Candace Owens held nothing back when she discussed her thoughts on Meghan Markle's relationship with Prince Harry on her Twitter platform. In fact, she thinks their relationship is super toxic.
On Twitter, Owens wrote, "Isolating an individual away from their family and friends, using suicide threats to get what you want – these are classic signs of an emotionally abusive relationship, but we are supposed to suspend rationality because 'racism'."
Russell Brand Doesn't Get The Point Of The Royal Family
Russell Brand is famous for some questionable reasons. Sure, he is an accomplished actor, comedian, and writer, but he's also a recovering drug addict known for breaking up with his then-wife (ahem, Katy Perry) via text. Anyway, he had some harsh things to say about Meghan and the rest of the royal family.
When it comes to royalists in general, Russell is just not down. In his book, Revolution, the star writes, "I mean in England we have a Queen for [expletive] sake. We have to call her things like 'Your Majesty' like she's all majestic. She's just a person. 'Your Highness'! What the [expletive] is that? She's high up, above us, at the top of a class pyramid on a shelf of money with her own face on it." Tell us how you really feel, Russell.
Colin Firth Doesn't Sit Well With 'Unelected' Bodies
Actor Colin Firth doesn't have a specific problem with Meghan per se, he just doesn't see the need for the royal family at all. Firth, who ironically won the Academy Award for his role in The King's Speech, doesn't see the need for a monarchy.
"I really like voting," Firth said told Piers Morgan on CNN. "It's one of my favorite things." When it comes to unelected bodies though? "It's a problem for me," Firth said. We have a feeling Colin and Piers had a good time with this topic!
Celebs are the only ones who don't like Meghan — even some of her family members have chimed in.
Meghan’s Sister Says She’s A Social Climber
Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Grant isn’t exactly a celebrity, but she has been one of Meghan’s biggest critics. Since the royal couple announced they were dating in late 2016, Samantha has come out of the woodwork. And by “come out of the woodwork” we mean she's been profusely spilling family secrets and voicing not-so-nice opinions about her half-sister
Samantha publically called Meghan a “social climber” and made claims that she is never there for her. Then she complained that she wasn’t invited to the wedding...(hmm, we can’t imagine why!). Considering the sisters are almost 20 years apart, grew up in different households, and were reportedly never close, Samantha likely just wants her 15 minutes of fame.
Meghan's Brother Says She Has A Harsh Attitude
Meghan's sister isn't the only one her family to badmouth the new Duchess. Meghan's brother, Thomas Jr. claims that his sister's attitude towards him changed after she became famous.
According to In Touch, Thomas Jr. reached out to Meghan but she had her lawyer respond to him instead. Apparently, Meghan told her lawyer that Thomas Jr. is distant family and that she "doesn't know those people." Thomas Jr. doesn't quite feel the same way, telling the magazine that her response was pretty harsh since "I spent a lot of time with her growing up." While there are two sides to every story, considering Thomas Jr.'s legal troubles last year, we're on Meghan's side.
Meghan's Childhood Friend Practically Called Her A Liar
In Meghan and Harry's engagement interview with CNN, Meghan claimed that she didn't have much of an understanding of England's royal family before she met her future husband. "I didn’t know a lot about him, everything that I have learned about him, I learned through him as opposed to having grown up around different news stories or tabloids," she said.
However, Meghan's childhood friend Ninaki Priddy has repudiated those claims. In a Daily Mail interview, she said: "I know the Royal Family was something she found fascinating. She had one of Princess Diana’s books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf, and even when she was with Trevor she told me she wanted to go and stay in London for at least a month... I wasn’t shocked or even surprised to hear about Prince Harry. I know she used to love The Princess Diaries — films about a commoner who becomes part of a Royal Family. She was very taken with that idea."
And That's Not All Meghan's Former Friend Had To Say
Meghan's former friend Ninaki Priddy (pictured above, second from left in red) has had plenty to say about the now-Duchess, and she doesn't tend to hold back. To the Daily Mail she revealed that she believes Meghan to be an opportunist. "All I can say now is that I think Meghan was calculated — very calculated — in the way she handled people and relationships," she said.
"[Meghan] is very strategic in the way she cultivates circles of friends. Once she decides you’re not part of her life, she can be very cold. It’s this shutdown mechanism she has. There’s nothing to negotiate. She’s made her decision and that’s it."
America's First Daughter Is Allegedly Not A Fan
We're not sure whether claims of Meghan Markle and Ivanka Trump being "frenemies" have much merit. But members of the press seem to enjoy making negative comparisons between the two women. For instance, Erin Gloria Ryan, a columnist for the Daily Beast, wrote an article called "Meghan Markle Is Everything Ivanka Trump Wishes She Could Be." Meow!
In the piece, Ryan went on to say “Markle, a working actress who once held a briefcase on Deal Or No Deal, gets to retire from the thornier parts of politics and into a life of a princess. Meanwhile Ivanka, the telegenic heiress of the man behind The Art of the Deal has found herself queen of the frogs.”
Katie Hopkins Just Can't Stop Bad-Mouthing Meghan
We mentioned the reality TV star Katie Hopkins earlier, and it seems she's made the list again. She must really, really despise Meghan. In an opinion piece for the Daily Mail, Katie criticized Meghan's former job. “Given she used to work as a ‘freelance calligrapher’ (which basically means she can write with a pen) her fortunes have taken off faster than Tim Peake on his way to the International Space Station.”
This level of venom toward Meghan seems a bit over-the-top and unnecessary. Why spend so much time attacking someone publicly?
Whoa, Whoa There Katie
And the disses keep coming from Katie Hopkins. In this wildly inappropriate tweet from March 2018, she wrote "Meghan Markle will be preggers faster than an 11yr old white girl in #Telford."
People did not respond positively to this lewd and offensive statement, especially since it was tweeted on Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day. Telford is the site of a massive child sexual exploitation scandal in which hundreds of young girls were abused. There doesn't seem to be any reason at all for Katie to have made a connection between child abuse and speculation about Meghan Markle's future pregnancy.
More Negative Speculation From A Dubious Source
An Australian woman claiming to be a psychic has also publicly speculated about Meghan Markle's future, and she doesn't have good news for the Duchess of Sussex. In a television interview with Sunrise, Kerrie Erwin stated that she doesn't believe that Meghan and Harry's relationship will last. That's harsh!
"I do get [feelings of] a pregnancy for her next year," she said. "But actually I don't think it's going to last. I'd probably give it five years. I feel there is a lot of personal things going on between them because they're two very strong individuals." Everyone seems to feel the need to weigh in on the royal couple's private life.
Half Brother Thomas Publicly Bashed Meghan
Just days before the royal wedding, Meghan's half-brother Thomas, Jr. made the news again. This time he wrote a letter to Prince Harry and shared the contents with In Touch magazine. It is clear that there's no love lost between Meghan and Thomas.
“It’s very apparent that her tiny bit of Hollywood fame has gone to her head, changing her into a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage,” Thomas wrote to Harry. Not exactly a loving sentiment from a brother.
One Celebrity Big Brother Contestant Is Definitely Not On Team Meghan
We doubt this snub will bother Meghan much. Celebrity Big Brother Contestant and former Member of Parliament Ann Widdecombe has expressed a real lack of enthusiasm for the American actress.
During a January 2018 taping of the show, Ann unleashed her thoughts about Meghan. "I think she's trouble," she stated. "[It's her] background [and] attitude, I worry… I add it all up and I'm uneasy. There we go." Needless to say, she probably didn't receive an invitation to the royal wedding.
Her Privacy Is A Thing Of The Past
While all of the benefits of marrying into the royal family may be obvious and seem grand, the downsides are often overlooked. This even applies to Meghan Markle. So before you think she's in it for the title or the lifestyle learn about all of the things she had to give up after saying "I do" to Prince Harry.
After marrying into the royal family, everything about her life both past and present is at the will of the press. She isn't able to keep any secrets and she'll constantly be in the public eye. She'll be subjected to either constant ridicule or endless praise depending on her actions.
Her Independence Is Down The Drain
As if she wasn't already popular enough, now that she's married, she won't be able to go anywhere in public without being noticed. Although she may end up trying to stay private like Princess Diana, it's likely most of her attempts will be futile. She is also escorted almost everywhere for her own safety which could easily blow her cover.
Her Acting Career Is No More
Her acting career has also come to a screeching halt. Although she had established herself as a well-known actress, she has to put that all aside for her new royal career. No one in the royal family holds a paid job outside of their royal philanthropic duties which would make her acting career impossible.
Social Media Is A Thing Of The Past
For the most part, members of the royal family do not have personal social media accounts of any kind. However, Markle voluntarily deleted her Instagram and her blog, The Tig. She figured that they wouldn't do anything but lead to problems in the future. It's not like she needs to share more than will already be known.
Her Personal Wardrobe Is Changing
Although she won't be told what to wear every day, there are strict guidelines as to what is okay for royals to wear and what's not. There are colors that they are to avoid, pants are out of the question, and they favor certain designers. Although Markle hasn't fully adhered to these rules, she doesn't have much of a choice anymore. We'll take a closer look at Meghan's new wardrobe restrictions later.
Freedom From Comparison
Whether she likes it or not, Markle has some big shoes to fill regarding current and former princesses such as Kate Middleton and Princess Diana. Her every move will be compared to others to see how she's doing in her new position. Most likely anything said about Markle will be followed up with something about Diana or Middleton.
Her United States Citizenship Will Be Changed
Now that she's said "I do," Meghan will give up her United States citizenship. It would be a bit twisted if a member of the royal family was a citizen of another country. Although she'll be able to apply for a dual citizenship she will become a full United Kingdom citizen.
Her Clothing Line Will Be Stopped
If you were unaware, at one point, Meghan Markle teamed up to do a clothing line with Reitmans. However, this partnership has ended now that she's assumed her new role in the royal family. There's little chance any more of her clothes will be released so hold onto anything of hers if you got it!
She Can't Voice Her Political Opinions
In the past, Meghan has been vocal about things such as social issues and other activism. Now, she will have to be much less outspoken about her beliefs because royals aren't allowed to express their political beliefs to the public. Not only is it inappropriate, but it can be contradictory to Britain's ideals.
No More Personal Space
Much like her future lack of mobility, she will also have to get used to having personal bodyguards following her every move. Although she may already be experiencing a decrease in personal space since the engagement, it will likely only get worse.
New Husband, New Title
For the most part, Meghan will have have to say goodbye to her Christian name along with all of her other nicknames that she's acquired over the years. There will be no more causal introductions and she will go by Her Royal Highness (HRH), the Duchess of Sussex.
She's Saying Goodbye To Her House In Toronto
After scoring her role in the show Suits in 2011, she made her house in Toronto, Canada her new home. It's luxurious and comfortable, and a home anyone would be happy to have. This us no longer her home, as she moves into a royal cottage with Prince Harry.
She's Left One of Her Dogs Behind
Meghan Markle loves Bogart, her dog, and previous roommate at her Canadian home. While most may think that Bogart would be getting an upgrade to Nottingham Cottage, they'd be sadly mistaken. Bogart was now too old to make the trip and she had to regretfully leave him behind. She did, however, bring her other dog named Guy with her. He's being spoiled with rides with the Queen.
No More Selfies With Fans
Back when she was an actress, Meghan could take selfies with as many fans as she pleased. However, after the engagement, this was forbidden. She has let the public know as to not seem rude when she denies them. She said that "The Crown doesn't let me." Surely, this was a hard pill to swallow to her many fans.
She Can't Cross Her Legs
This may not seem like a big trade-off to become royalty, but you cross your legs more than you think while sitting. When you're a royal, there's a certain way for women to sit: Legs and knees together, although she may cross her ankles. We'll see how long it takes her to get this down.
No More Colored Nail Polish
Although from a style standpoint it might not be preferred, it might make Markle's life easier knowing she'll never have to think about nail polish color again. Much like clothing, there are strict rules for a royal's nails as well. She is limited to baby pinks and nudes.
No More Casual Cups Of Tea
Tea is already a big part of living in the United Kingdom. Yet, when you're a royal, it's an even bigger deal. Before having tea with the Queen, Markle was coached on the new way she was to hold her tea from now. She better get used to it too, because that's how she'll be handling a teacup for the rest of her life.
She Has A New Bedtime
Although it is not a law, the Windsors have established a precedent that Queen Elizabeth II determines the bedtime not just for herself, but for everybody. It doesn't seem right to go to bed before Her Majesty. Princess Diana was known to break this unspoken rule, which was considered in bad taste.
No More Autographs
Much like taking selfies, Meghan Markle is no longer allowed to sign photographs. However, it is for a logical reason. The fear is that someone will get an autograph that can then be used for forgeries and security breaches. Better safe than sorry.
Hope She Doesn't Love Shellfish
Another thing that Meghan has given up is eating shellfish or any kind of messy food in general. As much as royals must look their best at all times, they must also look their best eating. In addition, there is a higher chance of food poisoning with shellfish which is to be avoided in order to prevent illness while traveling.
Speaking Of Eating...
When the new Duchess of Sussex dines with Elizabeth II, she (and everyone else present) are required to take a cue from the Queen. When the Queen says the meal is over, it's over for everyone. Forks down! Word has it that the Queen is very gracious about this rule and will take her time to make sure everyone else is finished with their meal before she ends things.
She Had To Carry A Bouquet Of Myrtle
Even if Meghan's favorite flowers were red roses she had to include myrtle in her bouquet. Per tradition, every Royal wedding bouquet should contain some myrtle. These flowers come from a bush planted by Queen Victoria in 1845. Harry also hand-picked a special addition for the bouquet: some Forget-Me-Nots. This was a tribute to his late mother Princess Diana, who loved the flowers.
PDA Is Frowned Upon
We'd better hope that Meghan and Harry are able to contain their obvious love for each other while they're in public. Hey, at least we have these commemorative mugs from the Royal Wedding to remind us how dreamy the couple is together.
No More Games For Meghan
It's a good thing that Meghan's new role as the Duchess of Sussex will keep her so busy since she's not allowed to play Monopoly anymore. This is because the Duke of York finds the game distasteful and vicious (even a version as British as Beatles Monopoly?). In fact, the only games that Meghan is likely to be involved with these days are The Invictus Games, one of Prince Harry's charities. The Invictus Games provide a forum for ill or injured armed services personnel to compete in Olympic-level competition.
Wearing Black Is A No-No
In her former life as a famous actress, the lovely Meghan was frequently spotted in all-black dresses and ensembles. Wearing these outfits publicly is now a no-no for the Duchess. This one isn't a hard set rule, just a guideline that most Royals tend to follow. Black is typically reserved for mourning.
...But She'll Be Expected To Bring A Black Outfit When She Travels
When members of the Royal family travel, they are expected to pack a black outfit just on the off-chance that a relative or government official dies during their trip. This stems from when the Queen's father died unexpectedly while she was abroad. She was embarrassed not to have had any mourning clothes as she made the return to England.
No More Walking Next To Harry
During the "Royal boot camp" Meghan went through before her wedding to Harry, she was given an extensive set of rules. One of these guidelines is that she should always walk a few steps behind her husband. According to a former Royal butler who sat down with Town & County, “in tradition, a gent tends to walk a few steps in front to protect the lady, if you’re being very traditional and royals normally do lead the way."
Becoming Emotional In Public Is Out Of The Question
Meghan is a world-recognized actor already so this Royal rule might not be too difficult for her to adjust to. Royals are to try their best from crying or becoming emotional in public. They are encouraged to remain happy, or at least neutral.
No Tiaras Before 6:00 P.M.
This one isn't exactly a big lifestyle change for Meghan since she just started wearing a tiara during her wedding ceremony. But in the future, she'll need to remember that tiaras are considered too formal for daylight hours and should be reserved for evening events only.
She Will Be Encouraged To Wear A Hat During The Daytime
We've already seen Meghan embrace the Royal family's love of hats. Now that she's married into the family, she'll be encouraged to sport a hat or fascinator at every formal daytime event. At 6:00 she'll change into something more formal.
She Had To Become A Code Reader
Now that she is an official Royal, Meghan is expected to read social cues from none other than the Queen herself. One of these is known as the "purse trick" and it relates to the rule that once the Queen is done eating, everyone is done eating. Approximately five minutes before she is ready to leave, the Queen will put her handbag on the table. Those around her, Meghan included, are expected to understand this cue and prepare themselves to leave as well.
Voting Is A Thing Of The Past
As mentioned earlier, this restriction may be difficult for Meghan since she is so involved with social causes. But, as the parliament's website says that " it is considered unconstitutional for the Monarch to vote in an election." The family must remain politically neutral, in public at least.
No More Christmas Day Gifts
Now that Meghan is a Royal, she'll have to celebrate the holidays like one. They exchange their Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve, after a special holiday tea service. The gifts are put on display and opened in front of everyone. Typically the family exchanges humorous gag gifts for the occasion.
She Has To Accept Every Gift Given To Her
Fans and politicians alike are frequently given gifts. They are committed to accepting every single gift presented to them, unless it's a food item. Further, they must release an annual list of every gift they received during the year. Meghan received her first official Royal gift in 2017: an apron which Prince William accepted on her and Harry's behalf on a trip to Finland. Meghan Won't Necessarily Be Allowed To Keep Her Gifts
All members of the Royal family have to give any gifts they receive to the Queen, who then decides what to do with them. According to the Daily Mirror, she can choose to incorporate them into the Royal Collection, donate them to charity, store them, or discard of them if necessary.
She Must Stand When The Queen Stands
This rule is certainly no surprise but could be intimidating to someone who's such a new member of the Royal family. Anytime the Queen stands, everyone must stand. Meghan must also curtsy whenever she greets the Queen.
Absolutely No Cleavage!
As we mentioned earlier, there should be absolutely no cleavage on display by any member of the Royal family. Meghan has been adjusting her fashion choices to fit in with her new family but back in her acting days she really wowed in some spectacularly racy dresses. This striking silver choice was absolutely appropriate for an L.A. Awards event but would likely drop some jaws if worn to Buckingham Palace!
She Gave Up The Right To A Gender-Reveal Baby Shower
The "gender reveal" party or shower has become an increasingly common event among expecting parents. Meghan will most likely not participate in anything like this, if she and Harry have children together in the future. This isn't a strict rule, just a tradition of the Royals to keep a baby's gender secret until it is born and officially announced.
Meghan Cannot Go Out Bare-Legged
At least she'll still be able to show off those great legs... just in some skirts that aren't quite so short and with stockings or other type of legwear underneath. When Kate Middleton stepped into the international spotlight she helped to bring pantyhose back in style, so hopefully this is one transition that will be easy for Meghan to make.
Royals Cannot Wear Fur
This rule was put into place by King Edward III in 1137. His ban has been broken a few times but it's unlikely Meghan will ever wear fur. A known animal-lover, Markle doesn't support the use of genuine animal goods in fashion, instead preferring vegan leather and fake fur as seen here.
