Losing a parent is never easy. It was particularly difficult for Mariska Hargitay, who was also in the 1967 accident that killed her mom, Jayne Mansfield. The ’50s icon had a striking resemblance to her daughter, which Hargitay more than recognizes. In fact, it reminds her of her mama every time she looks in the mirror.

“She was just so ahead of her time. She was an inspiration, she had this appetite for life, and I think I share that with her,” she told People. “Someone once said about [remembering] my mother: ‘All you have to do is look in the mirror. She’s with me still.”
