The Village Of Lost Souls

This village of Nagoro can be found in the hidden valley of Shikoku, Japan. It’s highly remote so many of the residents have left to pursue jobs in the city. There isn’t even a local store, so there is no reason to live there. Residents die and there is no one there to fill their spots.

“Years ago, Ayano Tsukimi returned to her home in Nagoro,” wrote Aaron Souppouris in The Verge. “Confronted with constant departures, she has populated the village with dolls, each representing a former villager. Around 350 of the giant dolls now reside in and around Nagoro, replacing those that died or abandoned the village years ago.”
