In February 1970, 14-year-old Keith Sapsford ran away from home. Wanting to explore the world, he found himself at the Sydney International Airport. He managed to sneak into the wheel well of a plane and hide until the aircraft took off for Japan. Amateur photographer, John Gilpin, was testing his new camera lens unintentionally captured the young boy’s free-fall to his death and eventually the photo was published in Life magazine. Keith dropped an estimated 200 feet on takeoff until he hit the ground without living to tell the tale.
